It all started in 1908 after Mr Eade, the founder of the butcher’s supplies establishment, migrated from England to Australia.
In the 1880′s, the Eade family migrated to Australia and started a small butcher shop in Sydney. Mr Eade and his family then moved to Kempsey (New South Wales) before settling in Brisbane taking up a job as a smallgoodsman with a large meat works. During this time, Mr Eade developed a lot of skills in the smallgoods industry and soon became very clever at his job.
In 1908, Eade & Co. was born. This was a small business that concentrated its efforts on supplying the family butcher with all its butchering needs such as herbs & spices, sausage skins, tools, machinery and much more.
After a number of years had passed, Mr Eade’s son-in-law, Mr May, joined him in business and the name then changed to Eade & May. This business grew to be a large establishment that broadened its range of product and its customer base. Many farmers and hobbyists came to Eade & May for their entire home butchering needs, although, butchers and meat works were the main source of income for Eade & May at that time. Eade & May continued to grow at a prosperous rate. In 1955, a disastrous fire hit which caused a lot of physical and financial loss. At the time, Eade & May was located in Eagle Street, Brisbane, working from a 5 level building. After the fire, the business relocated to new premises in Roma Street, Brisbane.
In 1972, Eade & May decided to split the business into two divisions, main stream butchers supplies and home butchers supplies. The main stream butchers supplies division was then sold to Durant Distributors in Sydney whilst the home butchery supplies division was kept and the name changed to EAM Sales.
Today, EAM is still owned and operated by family which now operates a mail/phone order business that gives you access to specialised products in small quantities.
